2025 Annual Perinatal Partnership Conference:
Learning and Leading Together

In September 2025, the long-awaited 29th Annual NC/SC Perinatal Partnership Conference: Winning with Perinatal Health finally came to life at Harrah’s Cherokee Resort & Casino in western North Carolina, after Hurricane Helene forced the 2024 event to be canceled just two days before its start. Over three days, 116 nurses, social workers, doulas, perinatal health educators, and other maternal–child health professionals from across North and South Carolina gathered for education, connection, and much-needed fellowship.

The conference featured annual business meetings for both NCPA and SCPA, a bustling exhibit space with 20 professional and nonprofit vendors, and a powerful screening of the documentary High-Risk: Black Mothers Protecting Themselves and Their Babies, followed by a robust Q&A with the film’s writer and producer. Attendees heard keynote presentations from internationally recognized experts on infertility; digital tools to reach rural and marginalized patients; the alarming rise in syphilis among pregnant women; and culturally sensitive perinatal care for Indigenous communities. Breakout sessions dove deeper into pelvic health, care of late preterm newborns, respectful maternity care, and obesity in pregnancy, offering practical insights that participants could take back to their own settings.

The 2025 conference was widely viewed as a rousing success and a meaningful “reset” after the disruption of 2024. Planning now shifts to the 2026 meeting in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where SCPA will take the lead in continuing this binational collaboration to improve perinatal health across the Carolinas.
